February/March News
Spring is just around the corner. All students are showing signs of growth and maturity.
Thank you to all of our parents who have volunteered for Valentine's Day, Our Art
Docent Program, or our Library walks. It means a great deal to our children to have
their parents involved. If you would like to offer your time. Please let Ms. Deeley
or Mrs. Olivas know. We are always in need of some help with our motor skills, either
at PE or at recess. We do have a wonderful book with easy ideas if you care to use
that. Or a simple activity following directions, such as red light green light.
Field Trips
Many parents have asked about upcoming field trips. I am still on the hunt. Theater
works did not come to San Diego this year. I have sent a request to the Children's
Museum. I am waiting for them to respond. Because of the new car seat law, it is
much easier to use public transportation. I f you have a job site, that will offer
time for us to visit, please let us know. We'd love to come to a grocery store,
post office, police station or clinic. If there are other areas that you think will
interest the children please let us know.
Lent
The season of lent begins this Wednesday February 22. In Kindergarten, we focus
on acts of kindness and support. A zip lock bag with colored squares will be sent
home. Each time you catch your child performing a good deed, reward them with a
square and write down what the deed was. Have your child return it to school, where
we will use it to build a "rainbow of love" to Christ's resurrection at Easter.
Finally, thank you to all of our parents who attended the meeting this past Saturday
with Fr. Bob. The Jesuit Community, of which we are a part, asks us to remember
to continue our commitment to catholic education and service to those in need. Our
class will focus on those whose serve in the military. I've asked Brendan (my son),
and he suggests small toiletries (travel size). These can be sent into our class,
and I will be happy to ship them off. I think he's had his fill of Girl Scout cookies!
God Bless you and all you do for us at OLS!!!
