The Father Richard H. Brown, S.J. Scholarship Fund was created to honor Father Brown for his many years of service to the families of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he served 37 years as pastor. Father Brown has been a champion for youth and of Catholic education to the children of Barrio Logan, Sherman Heights and Golden Hills for over 50 years. This fund was created to provide scholarships to Our Lady's School (OLS) students in need of financial assistance and to encourage graduating students to continue their Catholic education.
Our Lady's School was created in 1973 when Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of Angel's Schools merged into one school due to declining enrollments as a result of a tough economy and the displacement of many families with the construction of Interstate 5. OLS serves students in grades K thru 8 and is located on two campuses. The higher grades are housed in the former Our Lady of Angels School and the lower grades in the former Our Lady of Guadalupe School. OLS has an enrollment of over 200 students and many of them come from lower income families.
Since its inception in 2015, the Father Brown Scholarship Fund has provided over $100,000 in scholarships to OLS students. The primary source of revenue for the fund is its annual gala and donations from individual donors. Please help us to keep Father's dream alive of providing a Catholic education to the children who need his help more than ever.
